What is Handle?

When talking about social media accounts, the word “handle” refers to the public username that has been used on such accounts. Social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram include the username preceded by the @ sign, such as @guardian or @BBC, for example. Before the Internet existed, Citizens Band radio listeners used the phrase to refer to themselves. These individuals identified themselves by using nicknames, which were later referred to as “handles.” After some kinds of conversation and message boards were widely available on a global scale thanks to the Internet, individuals began referring to their usernames as “handles.”
