Clickbait refers to any content found on the web that uses deliberately erroneous or exaggerated headlines or advertisements in order to entice a reader into not only clicking on the initial heading, but to then continue to click through numerous pages in an attempt to discover the information teased in the original post. This is done to achieve the highest possible number of page views, thereby generating revenue. The individual clicks through multiple pages and generally finds little or no information relevant to the original post. All social media platforms attempt to avoid clickbait. Algorithms are programmed to ignore clickbait posts.
