What is Application programming interface (API)?

Application programming interface (API) is a system that facilitates communication between two or more social media platforms. An API allows one social media platform to integrate data and posts with another. For example, when a social media user posts a story to their Instagram account, its API allows it to β€œtalk” to Facebook and add that same story to their Facebook account. Another example of a social media API is when users are able to access the Apple Maps app through Facebook Marketplace.
