Creative Commons is the name of a nonprofit organization that content creators such as photographers, videographers, musicians, and other artists can go to and receive legal tools such as licenses and other public domain necessities so that they can share their work and have it protected from unauthorized use, plagiarism, etc. There are a total of 6 levels of licenses provided by Creative Commons. Each one outlines and restricts the ways in which protected content may be used and if it is used, what type of attribution, if any, is required. Creative Commons currently covers over 1.6 billion various pieces of work.
